BNP men attacked cops, torched vehicles: DMP boss

DHAKA: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia said identities of the persons who attacked policemen and torched vehicles in Nayapaltan have been traced.

“They all are leaders and activists of BNP and its wings. We have accepted cases. Police, meanwhile, has started efforts to nab them,” he said.

Asaduzzaman Mia was briefing media at the DMP Media Center on Thursday (Nov 15) noon.

“Our vehicles have been set on fire with evil intention and to incite policemen ahead of the election. Who have set the fire, have been noticed. Besides, the way they were beating police members with sticks and hurling brick chunks, has been clearly seen in media footages”

“BNP carried out the attack in a planned way. They carried out the sudden attack only to create disorder ahead of the election,” he added.

However, two police vans were torched during chase-counter-chases between BNP men and policemen in front of BNP central party office in Nayapaltan Wednesday (Nov 14) noon.

Three cases have been filed over the incident.
