Terrorist acts at Nayapaltan to foil polls: Quader

DHAKA: Ruling Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader said BNP carried out the terrorist and subversive activities in its Naya Paltan party office to topple the government and foil the upcoming national election.

Quader brought the allegation at a press conference in party president’s Dhanmondi political office after interviewing nomination seekers at Ganabhaban on Wednesday (Nov 14).

He said, “BNP leaders and activists led by Mirza Abbas carried out terrorist activities in front of their Naya Paltan office in Dhaka to baffle election and topple the Sheikh Hasina government. It was completely violent and subversive activities. BNP again proved that it is a terrorist party and now Jatiya Oikyafront joined them.”

Seeking the Election Commission’s attention on this matter, Quader said, “We want to see lawful action by the EC.”

Earlier at noon, BNP leaders and activists clashed with cops in front of their Naya Paltan office when two police vehicles were torched. At one point, policemen hurled tear shells and rubber bullets to disperse BNP men.

Following the attack, Motijheel division deputy commissioner (DC) Anwar Hossain said BNP men attacked police after they were told to move away from street and clear the road.
