Wife among 3 to die for killing husband in B’baria

BRAHMANBARIA: A district court has sentenced death penalty to three people including the wife for killing her husband Abdul Karim in Brahmanbaria.

Brahmanbaria additional district and sessions Judge Shiekh Sultana Razia passed the verdict on Wednesday noon (Nov 14).

The death row convicts are- Salma Begum, second wife of the victim Abdul Karim of Vadughar village in Brahmanbaria municipality, her extramarital lover Sazal Debnath and Alal Mia. Apart from Salma, thee rest two convicts are on the run. 

The court also acquitted another accused Liton Debnath as the prosecution failed to produce enough evidence against him.

Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) Din Islam said the convicts strangled Abdul Karim to death on June 5 in 2011 and dumped the body on a canal in Urshiura area next to Comilla-Sylhet highway on the next day. On information, police recovered the body. Later victim’s first wife Shiuli Begum filed a murder case with Brahmanbaria sadar model police station.
