‘Drug dealer’ killed in M’singh ‘shootout’

MYMENSINGH: An alleged top drug dealer was killed in a shootout with the members of Detective Branch (DB) police in Mymensingh sadar upazila early Wednesday (Nov 14).

The deceased was identified as Sumon, 27.

Two police constables—Ilias Mia and Ranaul Islam sustained injuries in the incident.

District DB Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shah Kamal confirmed the matter to banglanews.

A DB team launched a drive in Char Puliamari area on secret information about drug dealing there, around 12:45am.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the drug dealers opened fire and hurled brick chunks at them.

Police fired back, in retaliation.

At one stage, Sumon was found bullet-hit on the spot. He was taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) where the on-duty physician pronounced him dead, said the OC.

4 kg hemps were recovered from the spot.

Sumon was accused in more than 10 cases filed over drug trade, robbery and terror charges, added the OC.
