MEHERPUR: A district court on Tuesday (October 23) sentenced death penalty to three men and different jail terms for two others for killing an auto-rickshaw driver in Meherpur. 

Additional District and Sessions Judge Md. Nurul Islam passed the order with Tk 50,000 fine, in default, 2 more years of jail term.

The death row convicts are- Alamgir Hossain, son of one Abdul Quddus of Gopalnagar village of Meherpur sadar upazila, Mamun Hossain, son of one Zinnat Ali of Ramnagar village of same upazila and Wasim Ali, son of one Abdul Aziz.

The court also sentenced three years imprisonment and Tk 20,000 fine to two other accused- Firoz Hossain and Kabul Islam.

According to case statement, police recovered the body of one Enayet Hossain Khokon, son of one Jalil Khan of Meherpur, from Tengramari bazaar in Meherpur on October 28 in 2016. On the next day, victim’s wife Rokeya Akhter filed a case with Meherpur sadar police station.
