DHAKA: The United States will not support any political parties ahead of national parliamentary election of Bangladesh.

The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Ambassador Alice Wells was addressing a press conference at city’s Radisson Blu Hotel on Monday (October 22).

Alice Wells said the US wants to see a free, fair, and participatory election which will reflect public opinion.

Besides, liable members of Myanmar security forces must be held accountable for atrocities committed against Rohingya people, the US official added. 

Alice Wells was accompanied by US Ambassador to Bangladesh Marcia Bernicat at the press conference.

Alice Wells came on a 4-day official visit to Bangladesh on Saturday (October 22).
