MANIKGANJ: A district awarded death penalty to four persons for killing a college student after kidnap from Shivalaya Upazila of the district.

District and Sessions Judge’s Court judge Shahidul Alam Jhinuk also gave life term imprisonment to a convict and acquitted three persons in the case on Monday (October 22).

Of the 8 convicts, 3 were on the run.

According to case statement, Badsha Mia kidnapped his nephew Monir from Manikganj bus stand area and took him to Savar of Dhaka, alluring him of a military job on September 2015.  He demanded Tk 20 lakh as ransom money from Monir’s mother Maleqa Begum.

Following day, Maleqa Begum filed an extortion case with Manikganj Sadar Police Station. Police used technology to track down Badsha Mia and detain him from Savar.

With information obtained from Badsha Miah, 4 others were detained from various places of Dhaka. Later, police and Rapid Action Battalion in a joint drive recovered Monir’s body from Bangshi River of Savar.

Police submitted the charge sheet of the case against 8 people on April 19, 2016.
