NARSINGDI: Two suspected female militants surrendered after law enforcement agencies cordoned off a building ‘Nilufa Vila’ in Choto Gadaichar area in Madhabdi upazila of Narsingdi.

Two women surrendered around 2:30 pm on Wednesday (October 17).

Earlier at 12pm, Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit Chief Monirul Islam told reporters: “There could be 2-3 militants hiding in the seven-storey building. We are trying to negotiate with them for surrender. If the effort fails, we will conduct an operation with SWAT team.”

In the morning, law enforcers flew a drone around the building to asses the situation and determine the position of the militants. However that attempt was not successful as the drone could not take helpful photos.

The seven-storey building was kept cordoned off since early Tuesday (October 16). Section-144 was imposed in the locality and residents were asked to avoid strolling outside the homes and the rooftops. All the marketplaces and educational institutions were directed to shut down.

CTTC also recovered two bodies of suspected militants after conducting a joint force operation ‘Gordian Knot’ in another house in Shaikerchar area of Narsingdi Sadar upazila yesterday.
