DHAKA: The cabinet has approved the draft of Broadcast Act, 2018 with provisions of punishment for 24 offences including broadcasting false information, rumors in media.

Moreover, anyone violates the law can be sentenced to maximum of seven years imprisonment or fined of not more than Tk 5 crore.

The approval came from a regular cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday (October 15).

Cabinet secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam briefed reporters after the meeting. 

He said, the law also asks to form a seven-member broadcast commission which will be implemented through search committee.
