'Drug dealer' killed in Mymensingh 'gunfight'

MYMENSINGH:  An alleged drug peddler was killed in a reported gunfight with Detective Branch (DB) of police in Mymensingh Sadar Upazila on early Monday (October 15).

The deceased is, identified as Payel, 29, son of Jalal, is hailing from city's Purohitpara, which is known as “Drug Zone.”

Confirming the matter, Mymensingh DB Officer-in-Charge (OC), Shah Kamal Akhand told Banglanews: “A group of 6-7 drug traders opened fire on law enforcers during a raid conducted in Dargapara area of the sadar upazila at 1:15 am. Police in retaliation also opened fire, making the drug dealers flee the spot.”

“Later, police found Payel being bulled-injured and sent him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead,” OC added.

Police claimed to have recovered 100 pieces of Yaba pills and 100gm heroin from the spot.

Payel was accused in 11 cases filed over the drug, and extortion allegations, according to police.
