DHAKA: Bangladesh Army has promoted Dr. Susane Giti as the first female major general.

The Chief of Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed and Quartermaster General (QMG) Lieutenant General Md Shamsul Haque adorned her with the new rank badge at Army Headquarters in Dhaka on Sunday (Sep 30).

Senior military officials were also present at the event. Dr Susane Giti’s husband Brigadier General (retd) Md Hossain Saad
himself was a specialist military physician.

According to a statement released by Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR), Giti passed MBBS from Rajshahi Medical College in 1985. In 1986, she joined Bangladesh Army as a physician. She attained FCPS degree in Hematology in 1996.

Major General Susane Giti observed duty of pathology specialist in UN Mission and different military hospitals.

Currently, she is working as the head of Pathology Department at Armed Forces Medical College.

According to the release, Dr Giti’s promotion opened a new horizon towards Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s initiatives in women empowerment in the country.
