ACC imposes travel ban on 7 Farmers Bank officials

DHAKA: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) imposed a ban on foreign travels for seven current and former officials of Farmers Bank Ltd for their alleged involvement in a transaction of Tk 4 crore deposited to a bank account of former chief justice Surendra Kumar Sinha.

ACC director Iqbal Hossain sent a letter to the special superintendent of police (immigration) asking to necessary step in this regard On Wednesday (Sept 26).

The officials are- former managing director and chief executive officer AKM Shameem, first vice-president Swapan Kumar Roy, senior executive vice-president Gazi Salauddin, vice-president M Lutful Haque, assistant vice-president Shafiuddin Askaree Ahmed, executive officer Umme Salma Sultana and its Gulshan branch manager Ziauddin.

The commission imposed the ban hours after interrogating all the officials but Ziauddin today (Sep 26) at ACC head office.

On Sep 25, ACC summoned the Farmer Bank officials for questioning about the bank transaction. 

Earlier on April 25, ACC also summoned two businessmen for over Tk 4 crore transactions in the bank account of a VVIP. Sinha’s name was not mentioned in ACC notice.
