DHAKA: Out of 234 stranded Bangladeshis in Libya following declaration of state of emergency, 157 have been brought back to Bangladesh.

The rest of Bangladeshis will be brought back soon from Libya, says a notification sent from the foreign ministry on Wednesday (Sep 26).

According to notification, 157 Bangladeshis were brought back from Libya in a chartered flight at 2:00pm Wednesday under the coordinated supervision of Foreign Ministry of Dhaka, Bangladesh Embassy in Libya and International Organization for Migration (IOM). The rest of the trapped Bangladeshis will be brought to home soon.

Earlier on Sep 2, Libya's UN-backed unity government declared a state of emergency in the capital Tripoli and its outskirts over the clashes between rival militias.

Following the declaration, Bangladesh Embassy in Libya is working with full force to ensure security to stranded Bangladeshi migrants in there. The embassy opened up a special facebook page and control room for providing continuous support and assistance to Bangladeshi workers.

Of the 157 people who were just brought back from Libya, 10 were sick and provided immediate treatment.
