ACC quizzes 6 Farmers Bank officials over Sinha’s deposit

DHAKA: Six officials of Farmers Bank Ltd including its former managing director AKM Shameem appeared before the ACC Headquarters on Wednesday (Sept 26), to be quizzed over Tk 4 crore credited to former Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha’s bank account. 

They arrived at the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) HQ at 10:30am, ACC Deputy Director (Public Relations) Pranab Kumar Bhatyacharya told Banglanews.

The other five employees of the bank are—Executive Officer Umme Salma, Assistant Vice President also former credit in-charge Shafiuudin Ahmed, Vice President also former manager (operation) Lutful Huq, Senior Executive Vice President also former head of business Gazi Salauddin and First Vice President Swapon Kumar Roy.

ACC director and probe officer Syed Iqbal Hossain sent them notices on Tuesday (Sept 25) directing to appear before the ACC HQ Wednesday. 

On April 25, ACC summoned two businessmen for allegedly taking Tk 4 crore in loans from Farmers Bank Ltd using fake documents and depositing the money in the bank account of a VVIP. Surendra Kumar Sinha’s name was not mentioned in the ACC notice.
