100pc corruption at Mongla, Burimari ports: TIB TIB officials at the press conference

DHAKA:  Evidence of 100 percent corruption has been found in every level of exporting and importing of products in Mongla sea and Burimari land ports, says a report of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB).

The Garman-based organization came up with the report at a press conference in city’s Dhanmondi Midas center on Sunday (Sept 23).

TIB Executive Director Dr Iftekharuzzaman said, “After long investigation and research, we’ve come to conclusion that 100 percent corruption exists in all levels of authority and customs of the two ports. However, TIB has no scope to prove legally, even though we have all the evidence.”

On average, at least Tk 2050 bribe has to be paid for per bill of entry while importing goods while Tk 1700 in case of exporting goods at Burimari land port, says the report.

Similarly, at least Tk 35,700 is being attained, out of account, by customs house of Mongla Sea port while importing goods despite having all legal documents. On the other hand, Tk 4,000 has to be paid as bribe while importing vehicles.
