GAZIPUR: The workers of a ready-made garment factory in Gazipur blocked Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway on Sunday (Sept 23) to protest the sickness of several of their fellow workers following drinking water from the factory reservoir.

They also staged demonstrations since the morning, to press the factory authorities over their unpaid salaries.

Vandalism of a few vehicles were reported. 

On information, police rushed to the scene for bringing the situation under control.

Locals and police said that several workers of NewTex factory in Maleker Bari area fell sick after drinking water supplied to the factory on Saturday (Sept 22) evening. 

On Sunday, their colleagues took to the street, to protest the incident.

Gacha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Kazi Ismail Hossain told Banglanews they were trying to return normalcy on the highway.
