A total of 338 undocumented foreign workers including 55 Bangladeshis were detained in raids conducted by Malaysian immigration department.
They were nabbed in drives part of Ops Mega 3.0 crackdown against illegal migrants in Malaysian’s Cyberjaya town since early September, said director general of Malaysian Immigration Department Mustafar Ali to media.
Ali said a total of 2,230 people were checked by officials and 338 foreign workers were detained for having no legal documents. The detainees include 55 Bangladeshi men, 36 men and 172 women from Indonesia, 25 men and three women from Myanmar and 47 Nepalese men.
According to initial investigations, a few companies supplied foreign workers who were registered to one company but ended up working for another. Those detained have been placed at the Bukit Jalil Immigration depot,” he added.
Citing sources concerned, news media said some 10 lakh Bangladeshi migrants are working in Malaysia. Nearly half of them are undocumented.
