National sports council bill 2018 passed in JS

FROM SANGSAD BHABAN: The ‘National Sports Council Bill, 2018’ was passed in the parliament in amended form by vesting the responsibility of managing the National Sports Council equally on the General Council and Executive Council.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Dr Biren Sikder moved the bill in the House. Meanwhile, opposition MPs came up with various inconsistencies of the bill and proposed for further review which was rejected by voice vote.

The bill was passed unanimously by voice votes with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair on Thursday (Sep 20).

Piloting the bill, the state minister said the proposed bill will replace the National Sports Council Act, 1974.

According to the Bill, there will be a national sports council with Youth and Sports Minister as the chairman of the council. The council will hold at least one meeting a year. There will also be a 19-member executive committee for four years while chairman of the Council will lead it. This executive committee will hold at least one meeting in every three months.
