DHAKA: A Dhaka court has awarded death penalty to five people in a sensational case filed over the murder of a father and son in Keraniganj in 1993.

Judge Md Bazlur Rahman of Dhaka Additional District and Sessions Judge’s court-7 passed the order Wednesday (Sep 19).

The death row convicts are- Safiqul Islam, Nazrul Islam Manzu, Choto Mister, Arif and Masud.
Safiqul Islam, Nazrul Islam Manzu, Choto Mister are in prison while the rest two are on the run after securing bail. 

According to case statements, the convicts attacked a small shop owner Sharif and his two minor sons with knife and chopper in the middle of the night after Sharif refused to give them cigarette without payment. The incident took place at Malopara in Keraniganj on July 13 in 1993. Sharif and nine-year old son Khokon died on the spot.

Later, Sharif’s another son Abdur Rahim filed a murder case with Keraniganj police station. After investigation, police submitted charge-sheet accusing five people.
