Golam Sarwar laid to rest

DHAKA: Samakal Editor Golam Sarwar was laid to eternal rest in Dhaka on Thursday (August 16).

He was buried at Mirpur Martyred Intellectual Graveyard around 4:40pm after his fourth and final namaz-e-Janaza at the Jatiya Press Club.

Before the burial, Sarwar was given state honor as he was a freedom fighter.

Dhaka district administration gave him a guard of honour as a mark of state honour on Jatiya Press Club premises. Representatives of the President and Prime Minister also paid last tribute to him by placing floral wreaths on Sarwar's coffin.

Editors, senior journalists, Press Club members, politicians, business leaders and friends and well-wishers attended last janaza of Sarwar at the Jatiya Press Club around 1:40pm.

His body arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport from Singapore around 10:50pm on Tuesday.

Golam Sarwar, editor of Bangla daily newspaper Samakal, passed away at the age of 75 on Monday night (August 13).

He breathed his last at 9:25pm while undergoing treatment at Singapore General Hospital.
