DHAKA: Major General Shafeenul Islam has been appointed as director general (DG) of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).

The Ministry of Public Administration Tuesday issued an order in this regard on Tuesday (March 20).

Earlier on March 7, Major General Abul Hossain was withdrawn from the post of BGB DG and sent to Bangladesh Army. 

Shafeenul has been serving as the chairman of Bangladesh Tea Board since 14 February 2016. 

Born on March 2 in 1966 in Jaypurhat, Shafeenul joined Bangladesh Military Academy on June 25, 1984 and was commissioned on June 27, 1986 in the Corps of Infantry.

He is a graduate of Defence Services Command and Staff College, Mirpur, Bangladesh and obtained his Masters in Defence Studies from National University.
