Abe, Modi call Bangladesh PM

DHAKA: Japan PM Shinzo Abe and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi phoned Bangladeshi PM Sheikh Hasina over incident of Dhaka café attack.

Bangladesh PM’s press wing sources said on Saturday afternoon (July 2) that Shinzo Abe called in the morning and Narendra Modi in the afternoon.

Both condemned the attacks and praised the measures taken by the government to take the situation under control, press wing sources added.

India and Japan governments assured Sheikh Hasina to give support in the crucial moments.

Bangladesh PM also thanked the counterparts and informed them about the steps taken to rescue the hostages.

She assured the Japan government about giving proper treatment to the injured Japan nationals.

The PM also reiterated her government’s stand to prevent terrorism and militancy in the country.

However, the attack on a café in Gulshan diplomatic zone of Bangladesh’s capital left 20 foreigners and two police officers dead while six attackers were killed during the rescue operation.

Moreover, a Japanese and two Sri Lankans among 13 were rescued from the operation.
