10 journos honored Bandhu Media Fellowship Award

DHAKA: A total of 10 fellows have been honored with Bandhu Media Fellowship Award for their investigating report on sexual minority people in Bangladesh.

While speaking as chief guest in the award ceremony program Deputy Speaker of Bangladesh Parliament Advocate Fazle Rabbi Mia said that sexual minority people in Bangladesh are passing vulnerable life.

Media people can create awareness so that government could take necessary steps to protect their rights and injustice, said a press release.

He was addressing at Bandhu Media Fellowship Award giving ceremony as at the Daily Star conference hall as Chief Guest organized by Bandhu Social Welfare Society (BSWS) on Sunday.

"I do believe the Ministry of Social Welfare can place a bill, so that we can take positive action in connection to give the constitutional recognition in the parliament by approving the bill.

Former Law Minister and Chairman of a parliamentary Standing Committee Advocate Abdul Matin Khashru said that there is no doubt that the report made by the journalist will create a penetration among the mass people, said a press release.

Government, media and other stakeholders should work more effectively for upholding the rights of the sexual minority people, he added.

They were awarded crest and honorarium and certificates. Bandhu Social Welfare Society has been sponsored the fellowship program.

Leo Kenny, Country Director of UNAIDS, Nawazish Ali Khan, Advisor-Program of ATN Bangla were also addressed among others as Special Guest.

The award giving program was presided over by Tamanna Rahman, Executive Member, Bandhu Social Welfare Society (BSWS) while Shale Ahmed, Executive Director of the organization presented on the objective and process of media fellowship award.
