9 get life over Mirpur cable TV businessman murder

DHAKA: A Dhaka court gave life-term imprisonment to nine persons for killing a Dish (cable TV network) businessman in Mirpur area of the capital on 13 January of 1996.

Judge of Speedy Trial Tribunal-3 of Dhaka Monir Kamal passed order on Sunday (February 16). 

The lifers were---Nasim, Abdul Malek, Joynal Abedin, Iqbal Hossain, Zohra Haq, Yasin, Abul Hashem, Dulal Driver and Selim. Among the convicts, 8 of them are absconders. Only Nasim was present. The court issued a warrant against the absconders.

According to case statement, the victim Kamal Pasha alias Dipu had conflict with convicts over Dish business. Besides, the victim was a member of ant-terrorism organization. Dipu drive the convicts away from the area because they created anarchy, terrorism and extortion. Out of personal enmity, Dipu was stabbed to death on 13 January of 1996.

The victim’s father—Dewan Abdur Rahman-- filed a case with Mirpur Police Station.
