BARISHAL:  A man who raped a woman on false promise of marriage in Hizla upazila of Barishal district was sentenced to life in prison by a Barishal court on Sunday (January 12).  

Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Md. Shamim Azad pronounced the verdict and fined him Tk 10, 0000, in default, to suffer three more years in jail.

However, the court acquitted another accused-Mannan Bepari in the case, because allegations against him did not prove.

The lifer was-- identified as Md. Saidul—was from Choto Lakshmipur village of Hizla upazila, said special public prosecutor of the tribunal Faijul Haque Foyez.

Saidul raped a young woman on April 23 of 2013 after alluring her to marry. Later, he refused to marry whereupon the victim’s mother filed a case with Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in Barishal.
