SK Sinha’s bribery case report submission now Dec 5

DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Tuesday (Oct 29) set December 5 for submitting probe report in the case lodged against former Chief Justice (CJ) Surendra Kumar Sinha, for allegedly demanding bribe about Tk 2 crore.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Sikder passed the order as investigation officer of the case and director of Anti Corruption Commission Syed Iqbal Hossain failed to submit the report of the lawsuit today, filed by Barrister Nazmul Huda.

Earlier on September 23, the court set October 29 for submitting the report in the case.

Former BNP minister Barrister Nazmul Huda filed the case against Sinha on the charge of misuse of power and corruption with Shahbagh Police Station on September 27, 2018.

Prior to that, the ant-graft body has approved a case against them on charge of money laundering.

Earlier on November 10, 2017, SK Sinha resigned as the Chief Justice following fury from pro-ruling party leaders, lawyers and ministers over his verdict scrapping a constitutional amendment.

President Abdul Hamid accepted the resignation of Surendra Kumar Sinha on November 13, 2017.

However, the full text of the verdict of Appellate division of Supreme Court scrapping the 16th amendment to the constitution was published on August 1, 2017.

The order shifted a power to the Supreme Court Judicial Council after stripping it off the Member of Parliaments (MPs), to impeach the Supreme Court judges.
