HC writ filed against student politics, ragging

DHAKA: In the wake of the murder of Bangladesh Engineering University (BUET) student Abrar Fahad, a writ petition has been filed with the High Court seeking direction to take necessary steps to stop student-teacher politics and ragging in all educational institutions including the universities.

At the same time, directives have also been sought to give proper compensation to the parents of Abrah Fahad. In addition, all the universities, including BUET, have been requested to provide security instructions to the students.

As per writ petition, instructions have been sought to take necessary steps to stop political appointment of VC and teachers in all educational institutions including universities in the country.

On Sunday (Oct 13), Supreme Court lawyer Yunus Ali Akond filed the writ petition with the department concerned of the High Court.

He said the petition would be placed at the bench of Justice Mainul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md. Ashraful Kamal.

Cabinet Secretary, Law Secretary, Secretary for Secondary and Higher Education Division, Home Secretary, Inspector General of Police, BUET, Dhaka, Jahangirnagar, Rajshahi, Chittagong and Jagannath University Vice-Chancellors (VCs), AL president and BNP chairperson have been made defendants in the writ petition.
