DHAKA: The High Court issued a rule asking why the failure of not holding any elections of Carmichael College Central Students' Union (CCCSU) in convenient time or after 1990 won't be declared illegal.

Education Secretary, National University (NU) Vice Chancellor and Registrar, Carmichael College Principal and Deputy Principal asked to reply the rule within four weeks.

The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Khairul Alam issued the rule Tuesday (September 17) following hearing of a writ petition filed by five students of the college.

The students are-- Osman Ghani, Md Abu Nayeem Alif, Safayet Rahman, Md Taha Yasin Dipto and Md Sohel Rana Prince.

The college established in 1961 has 25,000 students in HSC, honors and masters programmes at present. Authorities collect fee fixed for the students' fund but any election hasn't been held in last 29 years, they said in the plea.

The college students recently organized a rally demanding an election, they added.

However, Barrister AH Imam Hassan moved for the plea, at the courtroom.
