3 to die, 7 get life terms for Old Dhaka murder

DHAKA: A Dhaka court has handed the death penalty to three people for the murder of a man in Old Dhaka in 2011.

Seven others were also sentenced to life imprisonment in the case while three have been acquitted from the murder charge.

Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal Court-4 judge Abdur Rahman Sarder on Thursday (August 1) announced the verdict in the case over the murder of a man named ‘Rozob’ on July 24, 2011.

The three death-row convicts are Rahim alias Arif, Jiku and Abu Bakkar Siddique alias Tiger. All three are absconding.

Seven who sentenced to life imprisonment are- Monty, Md. Milon alias Chopa Milon, Akash alias Russell, Farhad Hossain alias Farhad, Sajib Ahmed Khan, Shaheen Chan Khadem and Mohammad Ali Howlader Babu. Without Mohammad Ali Howlader, the rests of lifers are absconding.

The court also fined Tk 20,000 each to the convicts who get life term imprisonment. 

According to case statement, Rozob was stabbed to death by these convicts in the east side of Court House Street behind the Dhaka Judge Court on July 24, 2011 following dispute over a mobile stealing incident.

Later, Anwar, elder brother of the deceased, filed a case accusing 13 people.

Investigation officer of the case Sub Inspector BM Nazmul Huda submitted charge sheet against 13 accused on December 5, 2012.

After examining all the records and witnesses, the court handed down the verdict.
