9 get life term for Faridpur series bomb blast

FARIDPUR: A special court of Faridpur sentenced nine persons to life in prison in a case filed for a series of bomb blasts.

Judge Md. Motiar Rahman of special sessions judge (Special Tribunal) court of   Faridpur announced the verdict in the presence of eight convicts.

Amir Sohail Mia, son of late Kamruzzaman of Boalmari upazila of Faridpur, Raihan Molla, son of Kaikobad Molla of West Alipur of the town, Amir Hossain, son of Aziz Biswas, of Mathurapur village of  Madhukhali, Masum Billah, son of Shahid Hossain, of Boalmari upazila, Maulana Abdur Rauf, son of the late Abdul Hakim of Rajoir upazila of Madaripur,  Abdul Gaffar, son of Nazim uddin Molla of Faridpur, Tofazzel Hossen, son of Harun Ar Rashid, of Madhukhali, Martuza (absconding) son of Goffar, of Faridpur,  Khalilur Rahman, son of Mahbubur Rahman, of Madhukhali.

According to case statement, a series of bomb blasts occurred in a number of places including Faridpur court premises on 17 August of 2005.  Police filed a case on that day.

The case was filed under the Explosives Products Act of 1908.

The court also fined them Taka 50,000 each. Otherwise, six months of imprisonment will be applicable, said advocate Golam Rabbani Babu Mridha.
