13th SAG: Bangladesh bag gold in all 10 archery events

DHAKA: Bangladesh bagged gold in all 10 events in archery -- both individual and team events – in the 13th South Asian Games at Pokhara today (Monday).

Ety Khatun and Roman Sana ensured their gold medals to make a history for the country. 

14-year-old Ety won in the women’s recurve event, beating an opponent from Bhutan by 7-3 set points. Ety had yesterday won gold in the Recurve women’s team event and the Recurve mixed team event.

Sana completed the clean sweep by winning the men’s individual recurve final, beating opponent from Bhutan by 7-1 points.

Earlier in the morning, Suma Biswas and Md Sohel won gold medals in compound singles event of women and men in archery.

Apart from the eight gold medals in Archery, the Bangladesh women’s cricket team also clinched their first-ever gold medal in the history of the competition beating Sri Lanka on Sunday (Dec 08). 

On Saturday (Dec 07), Bangladesh bagged three gold medals at the 13th South Asian Games. Fatema Mujib earned seventh gold medal for Bangladesh in fencing while weightlifters Ziarul Islam and Mabia Akter Simanta clinched other gold medals in the men’s 96kg weight category and the women’s 76kg category respectively.

Bangladesh picked up three gold medals earlier on Thursday. Humaira Akhter Antara and Marjan Aktar Priya bagged two gold medals in women's individual under-61kg and under-55kg weight categories in karate respectively while Al Amin secured another gold medal in the men's individual under-60kg weight category in karate.

Dipu Chakma secured the first gold medal for the country after winning the taekwondo poomsae event 29-plus-year category On Monday (Dec 02).
