13th SAG: Archery brings three gold medals for Bangladesh

DHAKA: Bangladesh secured three more gold medals – all in archery - in the 13th South Asian Games at Pokhara Stadium, Nepal on Sunday (Dec 08).

Bangladeshi archers bagged the gold medals in men’s recurve team event, women's recurve team event and recurve mixed team event.

Bangladesh men’s recurve team comprising of Mohammad Ruman Shana, Mohammad Tamimul Islam and Hakim Ahmed Rubel earned the gold medal in the team event of archery competition against Sri Lanka in the final.

Bangladesh women's recurve team comprising of Eti Khatun, Mehnaz Aktar Monira and Beauty Roy also beat Sri Lanka in the women's recurve team final to ensure the 2nd gold for Bangladesh on the day.

Besides, Bangladesh recurve mixed team of Mohammad Ruman Shana and Eti Khatun beat Bhutan for the third gold.

With this, Bangladesh so far bagged 10 gold medals in the ongoing South Asian Games.

On Saturday (Dec 07), Bangladesh bagged three gold medals at the 13th South Asian Games. Fatema Mujib earned seventh gold medal for Bangladesh in fencing while weightlifters Ziarul Islam and Mabia Akter Simanta clinched other gold medals in the men’s 96kg weight category and the women’s 76kg category respectively.

On Thursday, Humaira Akhter Antara and Marjan Aktar Priya bagged two gold medals in women's individual under-61kg and under-55kg weight categories in karate respectively while Al Amin secured another gold medal in the men's individual under-60kg weight category in karate.

Dipu Chakma secured the first gold medal for the country after winning the taekwondo poomsae event 29-plus-year category On Monday.
