DHAKA: Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court granted bail to Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) Executive Committee member and Women’s Football Committee Chairman Mahfuza Akhter Kiron in a case filed over derogatory comments on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.  

Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury issued the order after fixing Tk 10,000 as recognizance for the accused Tuesday (March 19).  

Kiron’s lawyer Liakat Hossain argued for her bail, at the courtroom.

Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Sufian Md Noman earlier rejected a bail plea of Kiron on March 16.

On March 12, police arrested Kiron from the capital’s Dhanmondi after she allegedly made derogatory comments on the prime minister, BFF, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and Bangladesh football organizers at a press briefing at BFF Central Office on March 8.

BCB former joint secretary Abu Hasan Chowdhury Prince lodged a defamation case against her with the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court on March 12 in which an arrest warrant was issued for Kiron.
