Tigers’ 50+ opening stand in 3 straight Test innings

DHAKA: Tamim Iqbal and Shadman Islam have shared a record partnership, scoring  50+ opening stand in three consecutive innings against New Zealand in their first two Tests of ongoing three-match series. 

Bangladesh found a solid opening partner for Tamim as he partnered with Shadman added 75 runs for the opening stand in the Wellington Test.

Tamim Iqbal made his 27th half-century in Test.

He added 57 runs with Shadman Islam in the first innings during the first Test in Hamilton in only 10.2 overs, where tigers started the 3-match Test series against New Zealand with a defeat. 

The duo bettered their stand in the 2nd innings, scoring 88 runs in 22.3 overs but failed their team away from an innings defeat. 

Tigers’ opening pair once again stood for long against the New Zealand bowlers in the third day of the second Test in Basin Reserve while the first two days’ play of the 2nd Test in Wellington had washed out due to rains. 

Shadman hits 27 off 53 balls while Tamim scored a 114-ball 74 before going back to the pavilion in the 2nd sessions. 

With the opening stand of 57, 88 and 75 in three straight innings, the Tamim and Shadman registered a hat-trick of 50+ stands. 

The duo became only the 3rd visiting openers in New Zealand with three or more consecutive 50+ opening stands in Test history. 

Earlier, South African openers of Eddie Barlow and Trevor Goddard had three consecutive hundred partnerships and four fifty plus stands in succession.

Bangladesh scored 211 runs by losing all wickets in 61 overs in their 1st innings of second Test against New Zealand in Basin Reserve of Wellington.
