Khaleda refuses advance treatment at BSMMU

DHAKA: BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has not given her consent to ‘advanced treatment’, recommended by the medical board of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.

This was revealed in a report on imprisoned BNP chief’s medical treatment, submitted by the BSMMU authorities with the High Court.

Earlier on Wednesday, the university authorities submitted the report to the HC as per its earlier order. 

Later on Thursday morning, Supreme Court Registrar Gen Md Ali Akbar submitted the report to the the HC bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice AKM Zahirul Huq.

Meanwhile, the High Court set 2:00pm to deliver its order in a bail petition filed by BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in Zia Charitable Trust Graft case.

During the hearing, the authorities of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) presented the report on BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s health condition to the court.

Earlier on February 22, the HC bench sought information about the medical treatment of Khaleda Zia, who is now in the prison cell of BSMMU.

On Tuesday (Feb 18), Khaleda Zia's lawyer panel member Advocate Sagir Hossain Leon filed the petition citing her illness.

Later on Wednesday (Feb 19) Khaleda’s counsel Khandaker Mahbub Hossain placed the petition before the court. Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer Khurshid Alam was present there.

Earlier her bail petitions in the case were turned down three times– July 31, September 3 and December 12 in 2019.
