Tabith attacked during polls campaign in Gabtoli 

DHAKA: BNP-backed Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayoral aspirant Tabith Awal has come under attack during his election campaign in Gabtoli area of the capital on Tuesday (Jan 21).

Witnesses said when Tabith and his supporters reached Bajarpara in Gabtoli for election campaign a group of people started throwing brickbats towards them around 11: 15 pm, leaving Tabith and some of his supporters injured.

Tabith told the journalists that: “Followers of Awami League-supported councillor candidate for Ward 9 Mujib Sorwar Masum attacked me and other BNP leaders and activists. Several of us got injured in the attack. But we are not afraid of these attacks. We will keep our campaign continue."

The elections to DNCC and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) are scheduled for February 1.

A formal allegation was filed with the Election Commission in this connection.
