DCCs mayoral polls: nomination of JP’s Kamrul cancelled 

DHAKA: The Election Commission (EC) cancelled the nomination of Jatiya Party candidate Kamrul Islam for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayoral elections slated for January 30.

All others mayoral candidates for the polls to the two Dhaka City Corporations were declared legal.

Returning Officer Abul Kashem made the disclosure after a scrutiny of candidates for the upcoming elections.

However, candidacies of six other contenders of DNCC mayoral elections were found to be valid. They are: Atiqul Islam of Awami League, Tabit Awal of BNP, Sajedul Huq Rubel of Communist Party of Bangladesh, Shahin Khan of Progressive Democratic Party, Sheikh Md Fazle Bari Masud of Islami Andolan Bangladesh and Anisur Rahman Dewan of National People's Party.

Besides, the DSCC (Dhaka south City Corporation) mayoral candidates, who are declared legal, are:  Awami League’s Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, BNP’s Ishraq Hossain, Jatiya Party’s Saifuddin Ahmed Milon, Islami Andolon Bangladesh’s Abdur Rahman, National People’s Party’s Bahrane Sultan, Gonofront’s Abdus Samad, and Bangladesh Congress’ Md Aktar Uzzaman.

The DNCC and DSCC mayoral polls are scheduled to be held on January 30.
