DHAKA: BNP has nominated Tabith Awal as mayoral candidate for Dhaka North while Ishraq Hossain, son of ex Dhaka City Corporation mayor Khoka, for South City Corporation elections slated for January 30.

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the announcement at party Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office in the capital on Saturday (December 28).

Mirza Fakhrul said: “We do not think the elections will be fair. Yet as part of the movement, we are participating in two city corporation elections. We think that by this election we will be able to reach people. I will have a chance to reach people. However, the election commission and the government did not give us that opportunity in the last elections held on December 5.”
