DHAKA: DNCC ward councillor Tarequzzaman Rajib was expelled from Jubo League hours after RAB had arrested him on charge of extortion and land grabbing.

Rajib, councillor of ward-33, was joint general secretary at Jubo League’s Dhaka north unit.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained him from a house under Vatara thana in an anti-graft drive on Saturday (Oct 19) night.

Later, Rab members raided Rajib’s residence in Mohammadpur.

Rajib went into hiding after the government had launched a crackdown on illegal casinos last month. A number of people were arrested on charge of extortion, contract-grabbing and running illegal gambling business.
