 Fahad murder: 10 BCL leaders on 5-day remand

DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Tuesday (Oct 8) placed ten leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on a five-day remand, in BUET student Abrar Fahad murder case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury passed the order after hearing remand petition filed by police.

Detective Branch of police pleaded for 10-day remand for each accused after produced them before the court.

The remanded BCL leaders are: general secretary Mehedi Hasan Russel, assistant general secretary Mostasim Fuad, organsing secretary Mehedi Hasan Rabin, information and research secretary Anik Sarkar and sports secretary Meftahul Islam Jiyon, Deputy-Social Service affairs secretary Ifti Mosharrof,   BUET BCL members Muntasir Al Jemi, Md Muzahidur Rahman Mujahid, Khandaker Tabakkharul Islam Tanvir and Istiak Ahmed Munna. 

Earlier on Monday (Oct 7), nine leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), including its BUET (Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology) unit general secretary, were detained over the murder of fellow student Abrar Fahad, police said. 

Krishna Pada Roy, additional deputy commissioner (crime) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), informed the matter while talking to media on BUET campus in that evening. 

In addition, further action will be taken against those involved after analyzing CCTV footage and talking to witnesses, he added.

Abrar Fahad, a second year student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of BUET was allegedly beaten to death at his dorm Sher-e-Bangla Hall early Monday (Oct 7).

The body of Fahad was found lying between the first and second floors of Sher Bangla Hall.
