None to be spared for offences using party identity

DHAKA: Awami League general secretary and Road Transport and Bridges minister Obaidul Quader said no one would be spared if involved in misconduct, corruption and terrorism by using the party identity.

He was addressing a press conference at the office of the Awami League president in capital’s Dhanmondi area on Tuesday (October 8).

Obaidul Quader said “Awami League is the oldest political party. Some weeds always enter into the ruling party. Now the question is what the party's stance against these misdeeds?”

“Awami League president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken a strong stand on the issue. If misconduct is taking place, they will face action organizationally and legally”, the AL general secretary also said.

Referring to the BNP period, he said, “BNP speaks tall talk today. Many such incidents have occurred during their tenure. However, there is no example that the then government has taken any disciplinary action on them. What happened to the Sony assassination of BUET?”

The present administration is very active. Therefore, nine people involved in the murder of Abrar have been arrested so far. Those involved were expelled from the BCL, he added.

Regarding the punishment for party misconduct, the AL general secretary said, "Pro-Awami League mayor is still in jail. AL MP is also in jail. Many more cases are under trial. The ACC is interrogating many Ministers-MPs. This is evidence of the measures we are taking”.

Regarding the activities of the BCL, he said, the BCL is not only doing misdeeds, it is also doing good jobs. All BCL leaders-activists can not be blamed for the misconduct of some members. Chhatra League has contributed to the history of this country.
