Truck kills Debidwar upazila BNP president, granddaughter

CUMILLA: Debidwar upazila BNP president and his granddaughter have been killed and two others of the family injured as truck knocked down their microbus in Bhoberchar area on Dhaka-Chattogram highway.

The deceased were identified as Farid Uddin Ahmed, 65, president of Debidwar upazila BNP and income tax lawyer, his granddaughter Mashruka, 2.

Debidwar upazila BNP general secretary Gias Uddin said that Farid Uddin along with his family members was retuning to Dhaka on a microbus after celebrating Eid at his home in Mohammadpur village of the upazila Tuesday (August 13) evening.

When it reached Bhoberchar area of Munshiganj, a truck hit their microbus, leaving Mashruka dead on the spot and three other members of the family injured critically. 

Later, Farid Uddin was taken to Square Hospital in Dhaka where he succumbed to his injuries at 8:15pm 

However, his wife and son have been undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Their condition is critical, said family sources.
