Jamaat Assistant Sec Gen Razzaq quits party
Jamaat-e-Islami leader Barrister Abdur Razzaq

DHAKA: Barrister Abdur Razzaq, assistant secretary general of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has resigned from the party.

The Jamaat leader sent the resignation letter to Maqbul Ahmed, Ameer of the party, on Friday (Feb 15) from UK though e-mail, citing its failure to seek apology from nation for its role during liberation war in 1971.

Contacted, Barrister Ehsan Siddiq, elder son of Barrister Razzaq, confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

In his resignation letter, Barrister Abdur Razzaq mentioned two reasons behind his resignation from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.

The top leader of the Islamist party said it is a time-bound demand that the party has to reform its political ideologies in light of the reality and considering the political change like as other Muslim majority countries, but the party did not do so.

Barrister Abdur Razzaq, in his resignation letter, said in last three decades, he have been trying relentlessly to convince the party high-ups to seek apology from nation for its anti-liberation war role in 1971.
