DHAKA: Dr Syeda Zakia Nur Lipi, younger sister of late public administration minister Syed Ashraful Islam, collected an Awami League nomination form to run for the Kishoreganj-1 seat.

Anna Milky, maternal cousin of Syeda Zakia, bought the nomination form for the seat on behalf of her from AL president’s political office at Dhanmondi in Dhaka on Friday (Jan 25).

The constituency fell vacant after the death of former Awami League general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam. He was reelected MP in the December 30 national election. But he could not take oath due to illness and sought time to the Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury for oath.

Earlier on Wednesday, Syed Shafayetul Islam, younger brother of Syed Ashraf, has collected the Awami League’s nomination form to contest in the Kishoreganj-1 constituency.

On Tuesday (Jan 22), the Election Commission fixed Feb 28 for the voting day in the election to the Kishoreganj seat.

Their father Syed Nazrul Islam, the acting President of Bangladesh during the Liberation War, was among four national leaders who were killed in jail in 1975.
