Develop your skills for own benefits

A university is an institution of higher education and research that awards academic degrees in various academic disciplines. Universities typically provide undergraduate education and postgraduate education. University life is very gorgeous, entertaining and colorful for most of the students.

Assuming that there are three types of students who are studying at the university

as follows:

1. The one who is dedicated towards his studies, help others, involves various activities and also conscious of his successes and failures.

2. Another, who is trying to pull his CGPA to highest with good academic performances, but has not enough time and interest in extracurricular activities.

3. There is another category of students who try to act cool in the campus leaving behind all the tensions and hard work in academic life.

Well, this is 2020, can also be called the age of globalization. Life is very easy for experienced people but complex for the one without having any experiences. We are human beings, which means we have things to learn every second. Today, learning session is very easy because almost all of us are having a Smartphone, which makes it easier to access to the internet and Google. If we need to learn anything just press the button and easily catch it up.

We need to develop our soft skills and also involve in extracurricular activities for our own benefits. It helps our life, decision making and obviously in getting a good job. When we get involved in such activities, we have to be conscious about our academic study, so that it will not hamper our studies as well, as our main profession is studying in the student life. But I also think all extra curriculum activities can easily be maintained along with our academic study. For example, when we have no classes, our university is closed or at any other free time, we can get involved in social activities.

A few years ago 10-minute school the team came to our university with 10-minute school founder and CEO Ayman Sadiq. I've talked with many of the team members, surprisingly most of them were students from different private and public universities of Chittagong and Dhaka, also they have good academic results.

The role of extracurricular activities in a student development improve academic performance, batter time management skills, learn new and useful skills, sense of commitment, senses of responsibility, introducing new peoples, introduction to new activities, more opportunities, self-confidence, teamwork and respects, develop problem solving skills, encourage self-expression, encourage creativity, improve coordination, encourage concentration, develop patience, develop public relation and public speaking skills help develop a moral sense and more.

Sometimes I face a common question from my senior and juniors that from where do

I find a lot of information about extracurricular activities?

Here steps to improve student’s involvement in extracurricular activities:

1. Increase student's peer interactions.

2. Promoting activities that enrich students' experience in both academic and social reinforcement.

3. Making good friends on Facebook or LinkedIn such as university students, good writers, CEO & Founder of club and forum. And develop a good relationship with them.

4. Have classroom presentations about the different types of clubs and activities available on campus.

5. Expose me to introducing you to other persons.

Here Some important tips for public speaking skills according to Marjorie Lee

North (Physicians and lawyer):

1. Nervousness Is Normal. Practice and Prepare!

2. Know Your Audience. Your Speech Is About Them, Not You.

3. Organize Your Material in the Most Effective Manner to Attain Your Purpose.

4. Watch for Feedback and Adapt to It.

5. Let Your Personality Come Through.

6. Use Humour, Tell Stories, and Use Effective Language.

7. Don’t Read Unless You Have to. Work from an Outline.

8. Grab Attention at the Beginning, and Close with a Dynamic End.

9. Use Audio-visual Aids Wisely.

We do use various social media such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and many more. By using these we can maintain a public relationship with the CEOs' of the company easily, build up a good relationship with a professor of university and students from home and abroad, getting connected with more and more people, which I try to do always. It really helps in learning, development of software skills, and also very effective in academic life, trust me! Because when you are in need to do a unique assignment, you can get help from a different university student or a teacher from the various university you were connected to, just knock them to get the help. You will definitely get help if you were able to make a good relationship with that particular person so social media is actually making a platform for all of us to make the right use of it.

According to a different journal, CEO, and also HR Head, they all say that every company looking for an outstanding person who has a mixture of different skills and experiences in various fields or might be an expert in any particular sector. Some of the most common soft skills employers are looking for and will be assessing you on include: Strong work ethics, positive attitude, good communication skills, time management abilities, problem-solving skills, acting as a team player, self-confidence, ability to accept and learn from criticism, working under pressure.

So you should do teamwork, sharpen your creativity, multi-task efficiently, learn to listen, have a sense of humor, for growing your soft skills. I can say that university life is a perfect time for practicing out activities and judge yourself. Need to think positive, understand what is good and what is bad for you. Using positivity, create your own position and always think positive, learn positive and do positive.
