ACC seeks Shahed’s info from 2 govt agencies

DHAKA: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sent letters to two government agencies asking them to provide information on Regent Hospital owner Md Sahed.

The commission sent letters to Directorate General of Health Services and to Bangladesh Bank on Tuesday (July 14).

Confirming the matter to Bangladesh, ACC sources said letters were sent to the agencies enquiring information about Shahed’s Regent Hospital activities and banking transaction records.

The ACC decided to investigate the corruption allegations against Md Shahed and his illegally acquired wealth. 

A three-member body, headed by ACC deputy director Md Abu Bakar Siddique, has been formed to lead the investigation. The other two members are- Md Neyamul Hasan Gazi and Sheikh Mohammad Golam Mawla.

On July 7, a mobile court of RAB conducted a drive in Regent Hospital in Uttara and sealed off two branches and its head office. 

Later, RAB also filed a case with Uttara west police station against Regent Hospital for issuing fake Covid 19 certificates and deceiving patients. 

In the case, RAB named 17 accused including Regent Group Chairman Mohammad Shahed as the prime accused.

Eight accused, including Shahed’s personal aideTariqul Islam, has been arrested so far. However, Chairman Shahed, managing director and seven others are on the run.
