KHULNA: Police on Wednesday night arrested five people, including the key accused in the case filed over the death of Dr Abdur Rakib Khan, director of Raisa Clinic in Khulna.

The arrestees are identified as main accused Jamir, Abdur Rahim, Abul Ali, Golam Mostofa and Khadija.

Police arrested them from different areas including Gazipur’s Tongi and Khulna’s Rupsa, Khulna Metropolitan Police commissioner Khandakar Lutful Kabir said.

Rakib Khan, who was injured in a scuffle with a patient’s relatives at the private hospital, died on Tuesday evening while undergoing treatment at Shaheed Sheikh Abu Naser Specialised Hospital in Khulna.

On Wednesday, younger brother of the deceased Saiful Islam, also a lecturer at Khulna Model School and College, filed a case against them with Khulna Sadar Police Station.

The death of a mother after giving birth to a baby at the clinic led to the scuffle, according to locals.

According to the case statement, some relatives of the patients attacked his brother on Monday, leaving him critically injured.

He was immediately taken to Gazi Medical College Hospital and later was shifted to Shaheed Sheikh Abu Naser Specialised Hospital. But he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.

Dr Khan was also the principal of Bagerhat Medical Assistants' Training School.
