DHAKA: The main Eid jamaat (congregation) was held this time at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, not at the Jatiya Eidgah Maidan, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Hafez Mufti Mawlana Mizanur Rahman conducted the first jamaat at 7am on Monday (May 25). A munajat was offered seeking divine blessings for peace, development and welfare of the people of the country as well as the world.
Devotees also prayed for early recovery of coronavirus patients and also salvation of the departed souls of those who died from the virus.
Four other congregations are also being held at the same mosque following the main one.
The Eid congregations are being held maintaining government-set health guidelines at the national mosque.
Usually, the main Eid congregation is held at the Jatiya Eidgah Maidan every year, if the weather remains in favour.
This year, Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated without any outdoor program and Eid congregations at Eidgah grounds across the country. On April 6, the government suspended prayers for the public at all places of worship and religious institutions across the country in a bid to stop further spread of the deadly virus.
Devotees have brought prayer mats and scalp caps from home and wore masks. Besides, arrangements were made at the entrances of the mosques for washing hands.
They also refrained from handshaking and hugging after the prayer, a common practice throughout the Muslim world.
