Gazette on extended general holiday issued 

DHAKA: The Public Administration Ministry on Wednesday (April 1) issued a gazette notification on the extended general holidays.

The government on Tuesday decided to extend the ongoing public holiday until April 11 considering the overall coronavirus situation in the country.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday (March 31) said, “We have earlier announced 10 days general holidays from March 26 (to April 4) and it might be extended till April 9.”

On March 23, the government declared general holiday in the country from March 26 to April 4 as part of its protective measure against fast spreading of coronavirus.

Government offices, except those involved in emergency services such as law enforcement agencies and hospitals, have been declared closed.

Kitchen markets remain open during this period. People have been asked not to leave their homes, except to collect emergency supplies and daily necessities.

According to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) the total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus affected persons in the country is now 54.

Bangladesh so far reported six deaths from coronavirus. Currently, 22 patients are undergoing treatment. Twenty-six coronavirus patients have recovered till date.
