General holidays extended till April 11

DHAKA: The ongoing general holidays have been extended until April 11, the Ministry of Public Administration sources confirmed on Tuesday (March 31).

State minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain told Banglanews that the prime minister gave the directives on holidays and a circular would be issued by the ministry in this regard.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on this morning (March 31) said, “We have earlier announced 10 days general holidays from March 26 (to April 4) and it might be extended till April 9.”

The premier said this while speaking with officials of 64 districts in a video conference her official residence Ganabhaban in the capital.

On March 23, the government declared general holiday in the country from March 26 to April 4 as part of its protective measure against fast spreading of coronavirus.

Government offices, except those involved in emergency services such as law enforcement agencies and hospitals, have been declared closed.

Kitchen markets remain open during this period. People have been asked not to leave their homes, except to collect emergency supplies and daily necessities.

According to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) the total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus affected persons in the country is now 51.

Bangladesh so far reported five deaths from coronavirus. Currently, 21 patients are undergoing treatment. Twenty-five coronavirus patients have recovered till date.
